California - Eco - Fady Labib : California firefighters continue their efforts to control a series of major fires in Los Angeles that have caused huge losses and destroyed at least 10,000 buildings from the Pacific Coast to Pasadena, forcing thousands to flee their homes. At least five churches, a synagogue, seven schools, two libraries, shops, bars, restaurants, banks and grocery stores have been destroyed. Many Hollywood stars have also found themselves facing huge losses after their luxury homes were turned into ashes and rubble ...
The Euro News website
revealed the huge economic losses expected as a result of the California fires,
noting that the forest fires in Los Angeles are expected to cause losses of no
less than $150 billion to the state of California.
The private forecasting
company "Accura Weather", which specializes in weather conditions,
stated that the fires raging throughout California are likely to cause damage
and economic losses ranging between $135 billion and $150 billion. AccuWeather
also explained that the worst fires have been burning in the area extending
from Santa Monica to Malibu, affecting some of the most expensive real estate
in the country, where the average home value exceeds $2 million, in addition to
negative impacts on tourism and health, due to smoke inhalation and damage
caused by smoke to buildings that are not destroyed in the future.
US President Joe Biden
said that the fires currently sweeping the Greater Los Angeles area are the
most destructive in California’s history.
“These fast-moving, wind-driven fires have created one of the
costliest wildfire disasters in modern US history,” said Jonathan Porter,
AccuWeather’s chief meteorologist.
In a press conference
held by California Governor Gavin Newsom, he warned residents that the worst
may still be coming. He pointed out that the fire in Pacific Palisades more
than doubled in size in a few hours, reaching 3,000 acres. He stressed that firefighting
efforts may take a long time before they can control the situation.
