The Central Bank increased the interest rate on Egyptian treasury bills for a period of 182 days, to 21.589%, thus continuing to enhance the attractiveness of government debt instruments, according to the results of bids recently offered for subscription.

The Central Bank, on
behalf of the Ministry of Finance, offered public-term treasury bills at a
value of 23.5 billion pounds, and 6-month treasury bills at a value of 20
billion pounds.
The Central Bank of
Egypt intends to close the subscription for 3- and 9-month treasury bills,
today, Sunday, February 12, at a value of EGP 13 billion for the three-month
bills, and EGP 21 billion for the nine-month bills.
The Central Bank of
Egypt is responsible for issuing and managing Egyptian treasury bills and
bonds, on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, and the proceeds go to spending on
items of the state’s general budget, through the bidding system, with 4
deadlines: 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and a year.
